Why Change?

“If I would have known you were a church, I would have visited sooner” was a typical comment we received from guests at church.

After an abundance of confusion around the meaning of our name and logo, our church body decided to change our name and logo to clarify who we are to our community.

Our church was founded in 1909, and although the name has changed eight times over the years, we were named after the local bayou early on. We desire to honor our rich history while increasing clarity. That’s why we’ve changed our name to simply: Bayou Church.

We hope this change will play a small part in helping us reach more people with the life-giving love and message of Jesus Christ!

Come check out what God is doing at Bayou Church on Sundays at 10 AM!

  • Here are some more comments we’ve heard regarding our old name and logo:

    • “I drive by Bayou Talla all the time and never knew what it was”

    • “I thought your building was a tech company (because of the logo)”

    • “I had no idea what your building was”

    • “I thought you were a daycare or a school (because of the playground)”

    • “I drive by all the time and didn’t know what a “Talla” was. I thought, is that related to the Taliban?”

    • “If I would have known it was a church, I would have visited sooner”

    • “What is a “Talla” church?”

    • “What does “Talla” mean?”

    • “I thought “Talla” was a greek word or had some theological significance”

    • “What does the logo mean?”

    • “Why do you have the wifi logo?”

The Process

The church body gathered for our bi-annual “Church Family Meeting” on October 16, 2022, where we voted to change the name of the church from Bayou Talla Fellowship to Bayou Church.

Ballots were cast and 83% of the Covenant Members present voted in favor of the change. 3% voted against the change, and 14% chose to abstain.
